I live in a SCBD apartment for 5 years. Our helper cooks dishes w strong flavors. We often open the backdoor to let the smell disperse. This annoys neighbours sharing the corridor. 

After years, I finally figure out the trick is to use a large Fan to blow out from the maid area (sucking air from the cooking area to push out the maid balcony).
